Cadets at Tees & Hartlepool Yacht Club

Friday night is Cadets night with the emphasis on learning through fun.

From April till the light nights fade, term-time Friday evenings echo with the sound of 30 or more 8 -18 year olds learning to sail. Shrieks & screams of delight, peals of laughter & tears of frustration are all par for the course. Cold fingers & capsized boats are part of the serious fun of learning to sail!

After sailing, de-rigging & putting the kit away it's time for a warm shower then a debriefing in the lounge followed by snacks from the galley & time for catching up with friends! Having learnt to sail in Middleton Basin, the next stage is always an awesome experience - out to sea on a fine evening for the very first time!

There is the chance to visit other clubs in the region to race against them, & the cadets together with their parents usually spend a weekend away camping see more here.. & here..
It is not all about sailing, during the early summer cadets have the opportunity to learn how to handle a powerboat & take part in the RYA Honda Youth RIB Challenge which is a national boat handling competition aimed at 8 - 16 year olds
