Dinghy Sailing

Dinghy racing takes place in Hartlepool Bay on Wednesday & Sunday  April to November, continuing  in The Jackson Dock until Boxing Day

We have a mixed fleet including Flying Fifteens, Lasers, RS 600's & even the occaisional Wayfarer or Topper! Everyone sails together under the PY handicap system. If you own a dinghy & live in the area, why are you not racing with us? Our dinghy sailors range in age from juniors through to octogenerians, you will never find a better way to keep fit!

If you don't have your own boat but can sail, still come & see us because crew are always needed.
Not being able to sail is no excuse either! If you would like to learn with a view to taking up a really exciting sport - then go to the training pages to learn how accessible sailing really is!

One of the most commonly sailed dinghies world wide is the Laser as pictured above. It is commonly used for training, it is a great entry level boat & good second hand boats are easily available without costing an arm & a leg! Lasers are sailed nation wide in Class events & are a main stay of Olympic sailing in both the men's & women's events.

Flying Fifteens are a regular sight at THYC. These double handed keel boats are reknowned for their stability but still offer great exitement in heavier conditions. Gary, (pictured in front) started sailing 3 years ago with the RYA Recognised Training Centre. He now owns & sails his own Laser & also crews on a Flying Fifteen.
